Trattoria dal Biassanot Bologna Review — Dining Beside the Canal

Bologna
Bologna

This is my report from a May 2025 visit to Trattoria dal Biassanot in Bologna.

I had lunch on the terrace, and it was a wonderful experience: relaxed atmosphere, prosciutto with melon, and tortellini in brodo—all refined and delicious. Service was smooth, and overall it’s a place I’d recommend if you’re looking for a meal with both taste and charm.

My Visit

Reservations & Access

I stayed nearby and walked in for lunch at 12:00 without a reservation. At that time, only about 20% of terrace seats were taken, so I had no issue getting a table. I was moved from a 3-person to a 2-person table—slightly annoying at first, but within 30 minutes the terrace was nearly full, so it made sense.

Atmosphere

The weather was perfect for terrace dining, with fans providing a gentle breeze. Unlike many busy trattorias that use disposable paper sheets on tables, this one had proper white linens over red-and-white checkered cloths—instantly making the meal feel more refined.

Menu & Dishes

I ordered light since I was dining solo at lunch.

Prosciutto di Parma e melone

Price: €12.5

I asked if I could get half a portion, but they only served full. Still, I finished it easily—prosciutto with melon never disappoints.

Tortellini in brodo di cappone

Price: €16.5

Bologna’s signature dish: tortellini in rich chicken broth. Stuffed with cheese and ham, each bite released deep flavor. Adding grated Parmigiano later gave it even more richness. One portion is quite large—better to share different dishes if you come with friends.

Vino della casa (house white, glass)

Price: €4

Bill

Including water and service, my total came to €38.5. Pricey, but for the food quality and canal-side terrace experience, it felt worth it.

If you’re in a group, sharing multiple dishes like prosciutto and tortellini will make the experience even more satisfying.

Overall Verdict

✓ Rating: ★4.0

This isn’t the cheapest trattoria in town, but for a relaxed lunch by Bologna’s canal, excellent food, and an elegant setting, it’s a solid choice.

✓ Best For: Travelers who want more than quick eats—perfect for enjoying a slower, more elegant Bologna lunch.

✓ Ideal Situations: A slightly splurge-worthy meal with a partner, or even business lunches.

✓ Heads-Up: Aim to arrive at 12:00 for lunch or 19:00 for dinner. After 12:30/20:00, reservations are highly recommended.

That’s my visit to Trattoria dal Biassanot—definitely a spot to keep on your Bologna food list!
